Rotary News September

Queridos amigos:

Dear friends:

We have reached September and doubtless part of our Rotary year has been consumed. Time goes by so fast that it seems impossible that two months of this journey are already gone. I have no doubt that in your Rotarian DNA there is a sense of vertigo thinking about everything still to do and the little time we have left. Every day we do not work on our goals , is not only a lost day but most important another day we delay our service projects, one more day people in need have to wait for our help. I would like you to feel as I do that responsibility that unites us in Rotary: to make this planet a better place for all its inhabitants and the environment in which we live.

September is Basic education and Literacy month, one of the Rotary service areas in which we show our committement with giving future men and women the necessary capacities and training to enable them to be free people .

Luckily in our country, education is compulsory and illiteracy isincreasingly reduced, but think of the countries where Rotarians like us work to achieve the fundamental right of Education .

Our involvement should bear in mind, also in times like these, this basic pillar for human beings. If we manage to help, we will have the opportunity to feel as proud as we felt when we heard the news on August 25 , which will remain in the history of Rotary and humanity, of the declaration of the African Continent free of the wild virus of Poliomyelitis .

Our # EndPolioNow has spread allover the world that spirit with which we Rotarians infect others to involve them in our projects.

Do not be afraid to collaborate with other organizations, do not be afraid to sign alliances with other associations that, like us, fight to improve the living conditions of all. It is time to open up to the world, to feel the rotarian pride , to be welcoming rotarians: Welcome to 21st Century Rotary.

As you well know, you come to Rotary by invitation. No need to enter any parallel organization, no parallel organizations in Rotary , it is sufficient to be invited to become a member of a Rotary Club . Even following the directions of the District Governor, the President of the District Membership and Extension Committee, and the Governor’s Delegate, it is possible to create new Rotary clubs . Clubs that are born out of need , and not out of private interest , to be present wherever society needs us. There are cities where there are no clubs and in which we should be present. I encourage you to, throughout the year and for years to come, help these cities have their Rotary wheel.

There is, as I said, no parallel organization to become a Rotarian. Nor is there a “Alternative Rotary .” Only Rotary exists: If it is “alternative” it is NOT Rotary.

It is time for continuity in the usual work , expanding and adapting to current times. Not everything has a place in Rotary. Our values are what we identify us as Rotarians. Without those values we are NOT Rotarians .

It is time for a ” disruptive continuity ” to be able to do things differently, to change, without fear, to do different things to obtain different results. This organization deserves all the respect of the society it serves, but also of each and every one of the Rotarians that constitute it .

The pride of being a Rotarian should permeate our spirits, our Rotary pins should shine on our lapels. But above all, they must shine in our hearts . It is a time in which, being Rotarian , is a source of joy and satisfaction . Being a Rotarian has to make you happy . Perhaps those who are not happy in Rotary should consider what they do here, what objective they pursue and how it is possible that being rotarian does not bring them the happiness of a job well done, well oriented , with clear ideas of who we are and towards where we want to go.

Let us choose well those who are called to be part of our Clubs. Think that one day they will represent you as presidents and you have to feel represented and proud thattheycanbetheonestodoit. We are not in a hurry to grow, let’sgrowin a measured way and in quality . Tomorrow’s Rotary will depend on Our quality, human , ethics , engagement and values.

Let us not fear debates and favour understanding. We are educated and intelligent people who put our abilities at the service of Rotary. Let’s be able to build together. Let us have a vision of the future, a vision of unity and work to achieve it.

In the words of Luis Vicente Giay : I encourage you to take care of Rotary for what it is, a true gem, a jewel. May each one take care of it by supporting it, spreading it, making it grow and making it better every day.

I know that when you read this you will know what I feel and think, remember that whenever I told you I just want the Rotary that moves me:: Without emotions there is no learning , emotionless no project , emotionless there is no memory .

We are Rotarians , we are People of Action who see how Rotary Opens Opportunities .
