On the meeting of the 9th September, opera came to RC Calvía International

Waltraud Mucher-Grega, an impressive Austrian mezzo-soprano, gave a lively presentation culminating in a surprising autumnal rendition of Auld Lang’s Sine in which everybody was encouraged to join in.

She studied at BRG Völkermarkt (Class of 1980). She participated in Teacher Training Programme in Music and Italian at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (1980-1985). She studied singing with Karl Ernst Hoffmann. She won prized in several international competitions. She also attended master-classes, among others with Anna Reynolds, Sena Jurinac and Neil Semer.

Waltraud Mucher has had international engagements as a recitalist, concert and oratorio soloist. She has participated at the Bregenzer Festspielen, and Mozartwoche Salzburg. She has co-operated with renowned orchestras and conductors, among others with Michael Gielen, Ralf Weikert, Fabio Luisi, Peter Rundel, Manfred Honeck.

Waltraud Mucher has participated in several premieres and CD-only recordings from early to contemporary music. She was engaged at the the opera houses of Graz (soloist 1998-2003: Narzissus by Beat Furrer, Stallerhof by Gerd Kühr, Zauberflöte by W.A. Mozart, Katja Kabanova by Janacek) and Klagenfurt, Berlin, at the Bremer Theater, Staatstheater Cottbus (1997-2004; 1st mezzo-soprano 1997-2003: Cerubino, Rosina, Suzuki, Carmen, Hänsel, Dalila, Ulrica, Die Schöne in Schöne und das Biest by Phil Glass, etc.).

Since 2003, Waltraud Mucher is freelance artist. She gives concerts with Schubert’s Winterreise and other Lieder programmes in Germany and Austria. She had engagements at the Komische Oper Berlin (Charlotte in Werther by Massenet (February 2004-2005); Bremer Theater (Marina in Boris Godunow, February 2004-2006); Anhaltisches Theater Dessau (Witwe Begbick in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny by K.Weill, February 2005-2007); In October 2015 she participated at the Festival Música Mallorca in Spain.
