EMAYA is a municipal public company of the Palma City Council, which owns 100% of its share capital. Its functions consist of managing the public services provided to citizens related to:
- Comprehensive water cycle: drinking water supply, sanitation, wastewater treatment and reuse of the by-products of these processes.
- Urban quality: selective waste collection and street cleaning, guaranteeing maximum quality and efficiency, within a framework of sustainability.
Energy and mobility: supply of renewable energy to satisfy all the electricity and gas consumption of the Palma City Council (developing marketing and generation activities), as well as the provision of infrastructures to promote sustainable mobility (electric vehicle, biogas, etc. ).
1: PRETREATMENT
Dirty water is treated to separate solid waste (roughing). Subsequently, it passes through three aerated channels where sand removal and degreasing are carried out.
2: PRIMARY DECANTING
In this phase, the sludge is separated from the water through three decanters. The water is left to rest so that the coarser particles settle to the bottom and form mud.
3:BIOLOGICAL PROCESS
In this process, a large part of the organic contamination and nutrients are eliminated by means of microorganisms and the combination of oxic and anoxic zones. Subsequently, in the secondary settling, the biomass (sludge) is separated from the treated water.
4: TERTIARY TREATMENT
It is the last phase of debugging. With sand and anthracite filters and finally with chlorine disinfection, better quality purified water is obtained.
5: SLUDGE TREATMENT
The sludge is fed to thickeners to reduce the water content. Then they go to the digesters, where in the absence of air, the organic matter is eliminated and methane is generated. The process ends with the dehydration of the sludge using centrifuges.
