Operation Kilo is a community service project of the Rotary Club Calvià International, dedicated to collecting food donations for people in need, especially families facing hardship, the elderly, and those supported by local food banks or charities on Mallorca.
What Is Operation Kilo?
Originating from the Spanish term “Operación Kilo”, the initiative encourages people to donate food by the kilo, such as rice, pasta, canned goods, or baby food. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps ensure that no one in our community goes hungry.
How It Works
Rotarians and volunteers set up collection points outside supermarkets or community centers, inviting shoppers to buy a little extra and donate it on the spot. All collected items are delivered directly to local food banks and organizations that distribute them to families in need, such as SOS Mamas Mallorca.
Why It Matters
Operation Kilo reflects Rotary’s ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and poverty within local communities. The campaign typically occurs several times a year, often around Christmas or Easter, when the need for support is greatest.
Rotary in Action
By joining efforts with local residents and volunteers, Operation Kilo brings Rotary’s motto — Service Above Self — to life. It’s a simple and practical way to make a positive impact and demonstrate that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
