Dear Member and Friends
I want to take the opportunity of this end of year Newsletter to wish everyone a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and to say something about what we have done in the first 6 months of my Presidency.
We have had a mix of events and activities, not all related to fundraising or doing good, and a number of interesting speakers at our regular meetings. The hand-over dinner in July was, by all accounts, well regarded by members and guests alike. This was down largely to the Lindner Hotel and Izzy Newman our entertainer. But a great venue, lovely evening and fabulous music.
We have had our fundraising events – Kilo Day for Age Concern, The Charity walk for ASDICA, our stall at the Santa Ponsa Christmas Fayre and our Christmas collection at Nice Price is due to take place soon. All of these activities need to be organised and managed and it is to the credit of members that all of these activities took place and raised money for very worthwhile causes.
At the same time, we have had some interesting speakers and we learnt about how someone gains the skills as a falconer. Using birds to keep Palma Airport safe from bird strikes. And how an opera singer enters and makes progress in the profession
Finally, we have had two Fun events, both involving a walk. The first was in Cap Della, where we had an amble through the countryside and then lunch in Sa Vinya and just the other evening, 20 of us walked through the centre of Palma looking at the Christmas lights and ending up with a glass of wine and tapas in a bar. An excellent way to start the run-up to Christmas and to mark the first 6 months of my Presidency.
On behalf of all of the Board may I wish all members and their families a Happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. We look forward to seeing you all soon in 2020.
