As usual, at this time of year, the Europe Day celebrations took place recently in Palma Nova. The weather was excellent, and a huge variety of stalls turned out selling artisan goods, food, drinks – of every sort – alcoholic and otherwise – as well as entertainment throughout the day. Rotary Club Calvia International, along with other charitable organisations had a stall to promote Rotary and generate donations for second-hand books – the latter really attracted interest in our stall.
This year there was one hiccup; on arrival to set up no space had been allocated to us! Obviously, some sort of communication failure. However, Isabel, from the Caviá town hall, soon solved the problem and found us a spot near the stage. We were never far from the centre of the ‘action’.
The warm spring sunshine, the company of fellow volunteers and chatting with lots of friendly people – residents and visitors alike – made for a most agreeable time. Oh yes, and we sold a few second-hand books too raising €142.
Many thanks to all those who took part and particular thanks go to Peter for sorting out the initial problems and setting up and to Roger Smallwood for nipping home to get some steps so we could put up some banners, not forgetting Michael and Mirella for packing everything up. An excellent day was enjoyed by all.
