Hugo Soto Fraga was inducted into RCCI on Monday 25 march 2019.

There were 15 members and 6 guests present to see Nidya Melone, President, induct Hugo into the Club.

Hugo is involved in the Hospitality Industry but is also an artist. He arrived in Majorca from his native Uruguayan 2003 to train as an artist with Alceu Ribiero. Hugo has had a number of Exhibitions, most recently in Santa Ponsa. Another Exhibition of his work is due to be held on the Island later in the year.

Hugo was welcomed into the Club by all present. President Nidya thanked Hugo for taking the time and trouble to establish contact with the Club at the Santa Ponsa Christmas Fayre and thanked Geoff Moore for cementing the contact; she was glad that this resulted in Hugo re-joining Rotary International. For his part, Hugo said he was pleased to be joining the Club and expressed his thanks to Geoff Moore and John Legate for their help and guidance. He hoped he would take an active part in the Club

About Hugo

Artist Hugo Alberto Soto Fraga was born in Artigas (Uruguay), on November 16, 1965. He currently lives with his family and works in Cala Fornells (Calviá-Baleares).

He has written about his art: I am fortunate to have been a student of three great Masters of Painting: Edgardo and Alceu Ribeiro, who were direct disciples of Gran Joaquín Torres García … “They have taught me a lot about the Painter’s Office” ..

In perfect conjunction with the local geography, he goes exploring by sea and land as a very special tourist, the whole environment that inspires him and presents motives that he immortalises them in beautiful paintings.

In one of his daily work trips, his trained artist’s eye led him to the discovery of an incredible site, especially for Uruguayans. Hidden in a puzzle of rocks on the coast, he found one day, the luminous silhouette of the map of his beloved country.
